Zombease, a resourceful survival blog to help users prepare for the worst through tips and products reviews, recently got their hands on the S20 Baton.
The Olight S20-L2 Baton presents everything about a flashlight that you’d need to survive an apocalypse, disaster situation, camping trip or average evening in an everyday world, all in a compact heavy-duty survival-ready design… with none of the stuff you don’t.
Measuring just 4.2″ long by 1″ thick and weighing in at 3.1 ounces (with batteries), the Olight S20 is an extremely compact piece of kit. It sits perfectly in the hand for in-action and on-the-move use or it can be securely clipped to a pocket, pack, belt, or bit of webbing with the included two-position clip… which, by the way, works as an effective lock-out when rotated over the multifunction side-switch.
In addition to standard carry the Olight S20 has a flat-tail cap for upright lantern style use and a strong built-in magnet for attachment to metal surfaces like car-hoods, lockers, overhead pipes, metal fencing and so on. While it might not sound like a big deal at first, the potential for hands-free operation increases the number of uses exponentially for solo survivors and people on the move.
While slightly more expensive than alkaline, lithium batteries like CR123A have been shown to be more reliable during extreme conditions and temperatures like major disaster or camping trip gone wrong, than their alkaline counterparts. Lithium batteries have an average shelf-life of at least 10 years, while alkaline can drain more quickly. Typically speaking, if you’re powering a potentially life-saving piece of gear, you want to use lithium batteries when you can.
And the conclusion?
Simply put, the Olight S20 isn’t just light, mighty, and bright, it’s extremely versatile as well.
When it comes to preparing for an emergency or disaster, space, weight, and effectiveness are key components to consider for all your gear. I’ve seen people pack everything from huge 5lb. 500 lumen tactical spot lights to 1oz. 3 lumen glorified glow-sticks. It’s rare to find a lightweight, high output, durable light that you can literally bet your life on, but when you do, it just might become your favorite light for life… that’s exactly what I found with the Olight S20.
Whether the danger lies in stubbing or breaking toes on unseen hazards lining the path before you, stepping out into a void you didn’t know was there, slicing your hands open on an unknown object as you reach out blindly in the dark, or something more sinister like the undead moving ever forward in the night, the Olight S20-L2 Baton takes away the danger of descending into darkness. Come hell or high water, the Olight S20 spells survival plain and simple.
